Branding

Now that's a deal!

partnered with James on branding for a bin store in the Treasure Valley with a unique daily markdown model, prices start higher at the beginning of the week and drop each day, reaching just 25¢ by Saturday. As an avid thrifter, I immediately connected with the thrill of the hunt and knew I wanted the brand to reflect that same sense of fun, curiosity, and discovery.

James didn’t give much direction on the design style, just that he wanted it to feel family friendly. Honestly, that kind of open brief can go really well or really badly in creative projects, but in this case, it went super well and he trusted me fully with the creative strategy. He imagined a place where parents could bring their kids and say, “Whatever you find, you can have!” because everything’s the same price and always a deal.

His other note was that he wanted it to feel a bit like The Price Is Right, which instantly got me excited. I grew up in Las Vegas, so bright lights, bold graphics, and the playful energy of game shows have always been a huge source of inspiration for me.

After researching budget-conscious shoppers and looking at where the company sits in the market, I knew I wanted to address something that often feels a little taboo: money. I wanted the brand to feel direct and transparent about pricing. That’s what led me to the idea of a piggy bank, an instantly recognizable symbol of saving, and using cash symbols in place of the “S” to drive the message home in a playful, upfront way.
